WUI (Writing under the influence)

Somebody once said we are all Americans, sometimes born in the wrong places.
On a warm autumn day in 1986, while enjoying beer with my college buddies,
I decided to join my new homeland.

I've come to appreciate the ideals that helped create this great country.
Liberalism, political-correctness, multiculturalism and moral equivalence
are destroying it.

American progressives have so far succeeded in elevating FDR to a here because he "brought" the country out of the Great Depression even though the economists and even some university professors have concluded that FDR had prolonged what would have been a recession into what ended up as 12 years of misery. Just as Obama is doing today.

But American progressives -- hating Reagan as much as they do for all his accomplishments - have also tried to revise other countries' history. Since I came to the USA, I've argued with them that Reagan is the person most responsible for the collapse of the USSR. The Eastern Europeans know it. There are Reagan Streets, Avenues in every Eastern European country that lived under the Soviet regime. They are celebrating Reagan's 100th birthday this month in Warsaw, Prague and Budapest.

But American progressives say those people are nuts. It was Gorbachev who did it not Reagan. Because, after all, how a dunce like Reagan could have done anything good.

What American progressives hate is the fact that they do not have heroes like Reagan on their side. They have Carter and now Obama. As usual, to prop their guys up, they want to bring down the others.

But it will not work this time. First, Obama's handling of the economy once and for all shows that FDR, LBJ and Carter all were involved in various wars against the poverty and as Reagan said, the poverty always wins. It wouldn't be so tragic if it weren't for trillions of dollars of completely wasted money and our children and grandchildren will have to repay of we will go the way of Greece.

On the national security front, well, the people of Eastern Europe tell us today who their hero is the way the people of Middle East, hopefully, will one day tell us that Bush not Obama was their biggest friend.

UPDATE: Statue in Budapest’s Liberty Square credits Reagan for freedom

“Today, we are erecting here a statue to the man, to the leader, who changed, who renewed, this world and created in it a new world for us in Central Europe - a man who believed in freedom, who believed in the moral strength of freed people and that walls that stand in the way of freedom can be brought down,” [...] [Prime Minister] Orban said.

But most American Progressives -- and in fact, I even saw this happening in Poland when I was there the last time -- would deny this.

Progressives, you are such a sore losers!
