Somebody once said we are all Americans, sometimes born in the wrong places.
I decided to join my new homeland.
I've come to appreciate the ideals that helped create this great country.
The only satisfaction one could have had in the USA losing against Ghana was the presence of Clinton. I really wanted the USA to win and play Uruguay and maybe to go all the way to the semis. But , at the end, I was glad Clinton could not have claimed some kind of responsibility had Americans won.
Why can't there be a prominent conservatives watching those games in SA? We can't afford to lose this PR battle. There are a lot of apolitical Latinos who are watching. If they only see that Democrats are interested in soccer they will naturally gravitate toward the Democrat party. The "you-are-not-responsible-for-your-own-life" policy is hard to fight but we shouldn't concede the ownership of the greatest sport even if some of us find it boring. I despise baseball and have to stay really concentrated to watch football but I don't disparage either.
Lastly, I want Germans and Mexicans to go down as soon as possible.
...I liked Italians more. Yes, I know, I'm supposed to agree with the so called experts who say Italy looked bad. But I'm going with my instinct. I think Italians may have underestimated Paraguay and they almost paid dearly for it but so far they have shown the best football in their first game; I don't think they played any worse then when they played Germany 4 years ago in what I considered the best game of the World Cup 2006.
I'm looking forward to Portugal and Brazil playing their first games to see if they can compete this year. So far, I don't think it will be France or England or the USA (no matter how much I'd like to see it happen) nor any of the lesser countries.
I would not mind at all -- in fact, I think it would be grant -- to see Italy and Germany play against each other this year again at some point; preferably the final. (I'm not sure it's possible; I don't pay too much attention to the brackets. I think FIFA is full of it they way it decides which teams make the cup based on geography and other politically correct concerns.)
There is no question the USA will get out of the group. And so will England. I'd not worry about the english goalie too much. The ball is crazy and he saved a very nice shot at the end so it should be considered even. In fact, the draw between the US and England is a good result; I still think the US team is better.
So far, I have not seen a team that could win the whole thing. I'm waiting for Italy and Brazil. Maybe Germany.
The garage is finished. Almost. It's habitable. But there is a lot of work left to put the finishing touches. Pictures to follow.
World Cup.
Well, I saw the first game. I think Mexicans sucked as they did 4 years ago. They have no speed or strength or imagination. On the other hand, I think South Africans can do some damage but are not a very serious team either. So at the end, Mexico will get out of the group to be punished shortly then after.
I'm watching Uruguay vs. France right now without knowing the outcome -- not very difficult given how little interest there is in soccer in the USA; I listen to a AM radio station coming from work and there was no mention of any score or even the Cup in general* -- but the French look just barely OK.
Now to more politically incorrect thoughts: the people who blow those horns are just f**king stupid or drunk. I really hope it's the latter. If you are sober and blow one of those stupid plastic trumpets for almost 2 hours, YOU ARE F**KING CRAZY!!!!
Maybe this is why South Africa is still a 3-rd world country.
* How can Republicans attract Latinos while disparaging soccer? They don't have to like it. But every 4 years there is this constant whining from Republicans about soccer. Look, I agree that Olympics sports suck but please, don't say anything about soccer! I will still vote for you but there are people who are not sure which way to go and this could make a difference. So please, respect the greatest sport ever! Do not compare soccer to baseball, for example. There is no amount of alcohol I'd have to drink (for free) to consider going to a baseball game.
